Anthomyiidae. Without consulting literature, I notice the long hairs on sternite 3 as a character of some Delia. See if you have another similarly ornamented male in your collection.

Do you have this specimen really in collection, or… do you just anesthetize these flies before photographing them and in the meanwhile you try to pull out the genitals a little ??

The cercal plate seems a bit long but looking at the shape and erect setae on III sternite and distiphallus, this could be Delia lophota....
Is it possible to check if mid tarsomere 2 has a ventral swelling (or can you make a photo of the tarsomeres of the midleg from behind)

The swelling on tarsomere 2 seems present.
Even under the microscope it is sometimes difficult to see, but on the left photo we can see a small swelling at the beginning. On the right photo it seems less visible,..more straight it seems.
So…Delia lophota seems right.
Nice work Pentti!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
