Little fly collected from mine on peas (Pisum sativum) Mathieu Sandrone : France : Ménéac : 56490 : 01/06/2016 Altitude : NR - Taille : 2.5 mm Réf. : 164712 Following the handbook for Agromyzid (Spencer 1972), I found that: Amongst Agromyzidae 1 -Sub-costa developed throughout its length, coalescing with R1 before reaching costa (Sub-family Agromyzinae) -Sub-costa becoming a fold distally and ending in costa separately and basad of R1 (Sub-family Phytomyzinae). > 5 5 - Orbital setulae erect or reclinate, or absent - Orbital setulae distinctly proclinate > 18 18 - Costa extending only to vein R4+5 > 19 - Costa extending to vein M1+2 ; orbital setulae conspicuously proclinate (not slightly so as in Lemurvmyza) 19 - Second cross-vein present; frons always strongly projecting; second costal section short, always less than twice length of fourth - Second cross-vein normally absent; if present, frons not projecting, second costal section longer, 2½ times length of fourth section > Phytomyza Amongst Phytomyza 1 - Second cross-vein lacking > 2 - Second cross-vein present 2 - Frons essentially pale, yellow or orange > 3 - Frons darker, brown, grey or black, at most partially yellow in lower half 3 - Scutellum yellow, at least centrally or at apex - Scutellum uniformly dark, grey or black > 12 12 - Femora essentially yellow, at most with darker striations - Femora dark, grey or black, at most knees yellow > 17 17 - Third antennal segment at least partially pale, brownish - Third antennal segment dark, predominantly black > 20 20 - Sides of thorax pale, yellow or whitish - Sides of thorax predominantly dark, black or grey > 35 35 - Upper ors shorter than lower or lacking - The two ors equal or the upper stronger > 48 48 - Frons distinctly darkened, either uniformly brown, brownish black in front or wholly greyish yellow - Frons uniformly yellow > 51 51 - Acr numerous, in 3-5 rows - Acr sparse, in 2 rows or entirely lacking > 55 55 - Arista conspicuously thickened ; small species, wing up to 2 mm, second costal section short, 1 t--2 times length of fourt - Arista slender, normal > 56 56 - Eye conspicuously pilose; frons yellowish orange, orbits distinctly paler; mesonotum matt-grey, acr in 2 rows; all knees yellow; wing normally 2 mm., second costal section twice length of fourth - Eye largely bare > 57 57 - Fore coxae distinctly yellow - Fore coxae predominantly dark, grey or black > 62 62 - Acr lacking, at most single, isolated hairs present > 63 - Acr more numerous, distinctly in 2 rows 63 - Male genitalia: distiphallus with two large, diverging processes above > Chromatomya horticola Goureau - Male genitalia: diverging processes of distiphallus substantially smaller > Chromatomya syngenesiae Hardy As C. syngenesia isn't found on Pisum sativum, but mainly on compositae I didn't checked genitalia. I'm not even sure if it's a male or a female by the way... What do you think? Mathieu |
