I have never seen this beautiful species but it is sufficienty distinctive to get somewhere just from the literature. I believe this to be Exoprosopa rutila, but this assumes that there are no closely similar species.

Thanks David!
On Italian Check list I find http://www.faunaitalia.it/checklist/invertebrates/families/Bombyliidae.html Exoprosopa rutila (Wiedemann, 1818), but on faunaeur http://www.faunaeur.org/full_results.php?id=130095 Exoprosopa rutilla (Pallas & Wiedemann 1818).
Which is the right name?
Anyway this specie occurs in Sardinia!
Thanks again,
DanieleWink

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
