I found this large Tachinid on Angelica sylvestris (in a meadow close to a small sea) in the middle part of Sweden.August 4.Size 14 mm.
When I run it in "The Tachinids of Central Europé" I key out on Nemoraea pellucida.Comparing pictures on internet it looks OK for a female of the species, until I take a look at the face.
The facial ridges of my fly is so enormously swollen, looks almost padded.
So something must be wrong either with the face of my poor fly,or maybe more likely with my determination.
Hope to hear your opinions !

Regards/Patrik

It is totally ok, though male.

What your see are the remnants of the ' balloon' used to break out the puparium.
So this one was very fresh indeed, when caught.

Thanks for confirmation and the good explanation for the strange face.

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
