This female ws reared from galls on Artemisia vulgaris. Triglyphus primus were reared from the same plants at the location.

I have tried to id it by means of the Syrph the net key, Nationalnyckeln and two articles:

http://cdussaix.free.fr/Ante-Syrfid/DOC/Eupeodes%20goeldlini.pdf

http://www.phegea.org/Phegea/2009/Phegea37-2_51-54.pdf

I'm stuck. Hope somebody can help me.

A few specifications:
lateral margin of tergite 5: entirely yellow

hind femora: light-brown discolouration at basis, 1/5 or less.

alula: almost entirely covered in microtrichia

posterolateral hair fringe on the front femur: pale

second basal cell: approx. 50 % bare

sternite 5: entirely yellow

hairs on scutellum: pale with a few black hairs in the middle

Hello Leif Bloss Carstensen,

Very nice rearing Syrphidae!

Eupeodes is, to my opinion, a mess. This specimen falls in between E. goeldlini and E. bucculatus in the keys. I've caught a few specimens with comparable features and put them in my collection as Eupeodes c.f bucculatus.

Greetings,

Ectemnius

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
