Hi everyone, Here are the pictures of a male I believe to be a Sarcophaga sp. The specimens has been collected in the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia), on the island of Nuku Hiva in 2013 with a Malaise trap. Only 7 species of Sarcophagidae have been reported from French Polynesia: Oxysarcodexia taitensis (Schiner, 1868) Oxysarcodexia varia (Walker, 1836) Sarcophaga crassipalpis Macquart, 1839 Sarcophaga misera Walker, 1849 Sarcophaga peregrina (Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830) Sarcophaga tibialis Macquart, 1851 Tricharaea occidua (Fabricius, 1794) Only O. taitensis and T. occidua have been reported from the Marquesas Islands for now. The male genitalia seem close to those of Sarcophaga crassipalpis and Sarcophaga peregrina but as I am not a specialist of this family, it would appreciate some help with these specimens ! And question : When I pin Brachycera specimens after they spent some time in ethanol, the abdomen and the eyes decrease and/or collapse. Is there a technique to avoid this ?
