hello,
fly found on 17-05 at the banks of a creek....

I first thought of Delia... but after a closer look: in my opinion Delia is to "hairy"
what about Paregle audacula?

and because I would really not like to read this sentence again:

"I can’t see any specific characteristics, which could lead to a genera or species" ,

I will give you some 7 pictures Smile edit: +2

many thanks for looking into this...Chris

It is a male Delia belonging to the penicillosa species group, all of which have long setae on one of the sternites, I can't tell which species it is without a view of the abdomen from below. Is the locality near the coast? In Britain penicillosa is found on sand dunes.

thanks Michael for your answer
...and no, this fly was not seen in miles (150+km) from any sand dunes, but on wet grassland next to a creek in the east part of belgium, near german/dutch border..
Delia penicillosa is not listed in the Grootaert-species list for Belgium, as well it isn't on two other observation-sides......or is there a synonym name used in the Lowlands ? ..

but unfortunately I've got no other shots from the abdomen from below...but I will check for certainty tomorrow ..thanks again...Chris

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
