Hello,

last but not least for today a very small Anthomyiid (?). Only about 3 mm, at ash trunk near forest (northwest Germany). Possibly Egle sp.?

Does it have a Fannia-like subcosta? In Anthomyiidae that character is limited to Calythea, which (in America) are normally more strongly marked.

Hello John,

I'm sorry, but this is the best (and only...) photo I have. Frown

In Anthomyiidae that character is limited to Calythea, which (in America) are normally more strongly marked.

I Germany we only have Calythea nigricans and pratincola according to "Entomofauna germanica".
Best regards,
Jürgen

Fannia molissima very probable. It's a pity we can't see the abdomen.
Stephane.

Personally I think this is again one of the smaller Egle species.
Lower facial margin seems projected, and the orbital plates are touching on top....

Best regards,
Jürgen

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
