January 20th 2015 I collected a larvae of a Syrphidae. Many pics from the larvae to imago can be found in this forumtopic at waarneming.nl (in Dutch).
http://forum.waar...msg1751723

Yesterday Febr 14th, the imago showed up and it is a female Melanostoma. I assume it's a M. scalare, because of the "hollow spots" on the abdomen. Length is 9 mm. Comfirmation of species would be appreciated.

Will add some pictures here, but for more images visit the topic mentioned above.

Was nice to see the development of this larvae. Was for me the first time, and with an imago as result.

Friendly greetings,
John Bouwmans

Ready and first breakfast. Is this indeed a Melanostoma scalare?

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
