big, slender fly from Amazon, any idea?

the fly did look like any I know; it set on a leaf and was engaged in a kind of duel with an ant; some obove onr centimeter long. Family, genera?

I go along with Paul here ... tending more toward the Micropezidae. It's a magnificent specimen.
