Taken in Granada, Southern Spain. May 2007. Very common in flowers. This insect has a long proboscis inserted in the flower (hidden in the photo).

Many thanks.

Conophorus sp. ?

Here I see many bombyliid flies around. Not now, because it is raining hard... Sad

yes, I also have thought Conophorus... but in a book I read the genus Conophorus has the proboscis same length that the head, but the book is only for French species... Thanks Jorge!

I am away from my collection at the moment so have to rely on memory. if it has a long proboscis like Bombylius then possibly Bombylisoma. Conophorus should have a relatively short proboscis and swollen basal antenna segments.

mmm... yes, it has the basal segments of the antenna swollen, and the proboscis is shorter than Bombylius, but not very short... Frown

Another view (it's not a good photo):
