This fly was feeding on sap from an oak tree. I think it belongs to the family Periscelidae. If so, there are only two species that have been found in Sweden as far as I can see: Periscelis annulata and, P. nigra.

Is it possible to say which one of these species it it, or could it possibly be something else?

Thanks in advance, Johan

For me the pictures are too poor to even say whether it is Periscelis or Myodris...

Yesterday I didn't have time to upload all my photos. These new pictures should make it easier to identify.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
