Hi

This magnificent fly is Aciura coryli.
The larvae live in flowers of Phlomis and Ballota, quite unusual for Tephritids.

Thanks a lot, John !!

I've been searching for similar flies pics.
And I found this: http://www.dipter...ad_id=5520, Maybe it's the same species?

Indeed it's the same, and as you can see it is ovipositing, so if anyone can give an ID on the plant...

The plant is Rosmarinus sp (Labiatae, like Phlomis an Ballota Wink)

Surprise !! The flies are emerging from Salvia officinalis (Labiatae Wink), inside my house !

Ah! thanks for the plant ID's!
The species is quite rare as an adult, though it seems to cocur in the entire mediterrannean region, but there are not that many rearing records! Is it possible to recieve one of your fotographs as a piece of evidence? preferably this last one, you can send it to smitj@naturalis.nl. The preferences may be the same used here, it's not for publication.
Thanks in advance.
