Hello,

is family Tipulidae correct here? Can perhaps the genus be specified? (found in south-western germany at a border of a dry forest. body length was about 1,5cm.)

The build and proximity to water make me suspect that it is Ptychopteridae.

Yes, it is family Ptychopteridae. And with single Anal vein A1 and forked M, it is in the genus Ptychoptera.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
