It looks like a small blow fly (Calliphoridae). But I don't know a similar species. I hope you can help me. Photo 30-4-2013. Bergen, The Netherlands. Regards, Thijs On the leaf of a berry bush. thijsdegraaf attached the following image: [53.35Kb] http://www.tuin-t...engels.htm |

Hello, Thijs! I'm no expert, but for me this one has the general jizz of a worn Pollenia. Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

Hello Jürgen, Thanks. Yes, I think, that's the only possibility. Regards, Thijs http://www.tuin-t...engels.htm |

Yes, Pollenia are called 'cluster flies' because they hibernate in large groups in cold, dry places to survive the winter. This means that any flying now are likely to be very old, tatty and rubbed, like yours, so they lack the classic curly, golden hair on the thorax

Yes Chris, I've always many in the garden after the winter. This year less than other years. I think because the long cold winter. But with this small pollenia without golden hairs I wasn't sure. I'm always hoping to have a new species to me. Regards, Thijs Edited by thijsdegraaf on 03-05-2013 10:46 http://www.tuin-t...engels.htm |
