Can this species be mistaken? I think not. Collected today, 2012-12-01 at Kampina, Netherlands. (province Noord-Brabant). Temperature about 4C, clouded, moderate wind with rain in the air. Seems to be a species that flies very late! Found records from Belgium even later than this date. Waarneming.be calls this species 'very rare'... Probably the first data for Hydrophorus nebulosus Fallén, 1823 were published by Levander (1914), and for Campsicnemus scambus (Fallén, 1823) by Frey (1913). They noted winter activity (December and February) of the species at snow in southern Finland at temperature about +0.5 - +1oC.
