Hi, Janet. Yes that's what I thought but Andy Godfrey suggested that at rest Conops sp. should have its wings more spread and that they do not generally rest on leaves. He also said that it was quite unlikely this far north? Regards Phil |

Phil, it is nearly two years since I keyed this but I don't think it's incorrect! If it is then I don't know what else it could be, ask Andy Godfrey to take a look then tell you they don't have wings folded nor are they this far north. I am less than 5 miles as the crow flies from you.

This is Conops vesicularis. In the UK, often associated with heathland habitats and quite scarce. Most records are from the south and south-east of England. Please can you forward the record details to the recording scheme? (dave.clements1@ntlworld.com) Nice find. |
