Hello! This fly picture I took two days ago here in Ostwestfalen/Germany. Is it a dark individual of Merodon equestris (I would say so from the wing venation) or maybe Volucella bombylans? Both species were very abundant here in the last weeks. Most Merodons however were more typically coloured: http://insektenin...odon_1.jpg http://insektenin...odon_2.jpg http://insektenin...odon_3.jpg Thank you for any hints! The wing venation is reliable in that respect, this is Merodon equestris.
