My best guess for this one would be Ulidiidae. Anyone?

Thx Kahis, you are absolutely right. Based on the key I have this can only be M. acuticornis of the four species recorded from Hungary, which is not the most common species of this genus. The key characters are: lack of dark ring at the posterior area of abdominal segments, and lack of darkening on the wing around the most prominent cross-vein (r23 and r45) and a brown coloured third antennal segment.

The wing pattern does not entirely match with the wing pattern of the illustrated M. acuticornis (it has one extra area of dark in the middle of the wing, but I assume there might be some variaton in this character.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
