Hi, The eyes, of this beautiful but creepy fly are really huge! Size is about 10-12 mm, if I remember well. 19th January 2010, Paraty-Brazil, rain forest near a river. Thank you! Myriam (the one from Gent)

Just a guess but it looks more like a syrphid to me (note the wing venation)

Amazing, never would have thought it was a Syphid from the looks, (forgot about the wing venation!) Thank you Chris! Great Gerard to have found Genus and specie! Thanks a lot!
