Hi,

The eyes, of this beautiful but creepy fly are really huge!
Size is about 10-12 mm, if I remember well.

19th January 2010, Paraty-Brazil, rain forest near a river.

Just a guess but it looks more like a syrphid to me (note the wing venation) Smile

Indeed it's a syrphid, a female Ornidia obesa!
