This is the second time I've seen this. Has the aphid been attacked by a pathogenic fungus which then makes the fruiting body underneath? This was on the underside of a leaf, the first one I saw was on a vertical fence. Ignore the mites that seem to be joining in. Brian V. |

Hi Brian, The thing under the aphid is the cocoon of some sort of Ichneumonid. http://ip30.eti.uva.nl/bis/insecten.php?selected=beschrijving&menuentry=soorten&id=762&lang=uk Ben Edited by Ben Hamers on 09-09-2006 18:24 |

Nice and focust shots of some kind of miets, too! They must be in the 0.2-0.4 mm range unless this aphid is one of the larger species. |
