Moscow region, 26 aug.
Meeting of this two Geomyza hadn't a copula as result, which isn't at all their usual habite.
Is it because they belong to different species?

Hi Nikita,

Both specimens belong to the "combinata group", which means that to get a positive identification, you need to study the genitalia. If I have to guess the identity of both specimens I would say that the first one is a female of Geomyza balachowskyi. The second one is a bit difficult to judge, it could also be a female (which would be one of the reasons there was no copulation Grin. Again if I would have to guess, I would say it is probably a specimen of Geomyza hackmani. So, yes, I think the two specimens belong to different species, but it is difficult to give a positive identification after a picture.

Thank you Jan.
I forgot to write that second fly is 1,5 less, as it is visible on images.
