Hello,

I need help for the determination of this Eupeodes sp. Withe the key of van Veen I get no suitable result. Some characteristics: Alula partly bare, wings entirely trichose, sternits 3 + 4 with rectangular spots (see picture), angle between the eyes lesser than 90?, Scutellum with black hairs.

No black hairs at the base of femur 1, frons entirely yellow.

Thanks for your help, Gisela

Sorry, Idon?t know, what is wrong, but I can?t show the pictures. I have the file in the attachment, but there is no upload.

The specimen is from South Tirolia, Italy, about 2250 m, leg. H. Hofmann.

Hi Gisela,

In the faq's it says:
Attaching files to forum posts is restricted to the following types: gif - jpg - png - zip - rar - tar.
Please make sure that you use lower case, because attachments with extensions in upper case (capitals) are rejected.
The maximum size is 200000 bytes.

Having an extension in upper case for example is a mistake easily made!

Or forgetting that 200000 bytes is not 200KB, but more like 195KB - I managed to do that twice yesterday.

Hello

I thank you for your tipps. The files are jpg and small enough. Perhaps it was the space in the file-name. I will try it again. First a view from above.

The first picture shows a very black/yellow frons, implying Eu. latifasciatus female. However, it could be tirolinensis in the Alps.
Leave that for the experts of alpine syrphidae

Hello Theo,

thanks for your tipp. I checked the specimen according to an article of Marcos-Garcia et al in Volucella 5 (2000). It seems to be Eupeodes tirolensis. I will show it to an expert to confirm.
