Haven't seen this one in my garden before Smile
About 11mm body length. Taken today South Coast UK.
Any ideas ?

Hi Brian,

I would say Didea spec. but I know very little about Syrphidae, so my opinion doesn't count for muchSmile.

Didea fasciata, male. The end of the haltere is pale, which is a distinguishing feature of this species. The other species (at least in Britain) have a dark club.
