Hello,

Found yesterday in Paris, size about 10 mm.
I'm thinking about a Cheilosia, but from there, I'm lost.
Thanks for any help.

definitely Cheilosia. It MIGHT (I stress might, because these flies are very difficult from photos) be C vulpina, with those patches of light hairs on the abdomen.

Hello,

Thanks for the idea.

Cheilosia are so daunting that I'm always waiting for some idea before diving in the key.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
