Today I saw some specimens of a Sphaerophoria that reminds me of S. rueppelli. It's the first time I saw this beautiful fly Smile. Is it possible to be sure it's S. ruepelli?

The next photos are only for comparing this species to male S. scripta:

Here the side of the thorax showing us the yellow band, that is interrupted in the fly that I saw todaySmile:

S. rueppelli is the only one (at least recorded at Fauna Iberica) with that short yellow band Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
