Hello all, First of all I hope I am in the good forum for this request. A friend photographied that nest within a Eastern bluebird nest box in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada (near Vermont, USA). It doesn't look as a hemynoptera nest but I think it is something created by diptera larvae. Am I wrong??? Any idea about which kind of insects (family/genus/species) built it??? Thank you, Michel |

Lepidoptera, Pyralidae, Galleriinae, Aphomia sociella or a related species

Thank you very much Tony! I think you are rigjt! It can easily be a parasited bumblebee nest by a colony of Aphomia sp. Aphomia sociella is not present in Quebec but a related species of the same genus could be the culprit. Thanks alot! Michel |
