I tried to key it out from picture, but essential features are not visible or out of focus. Would'nt it be 'just' M. cingulatus as most probable here??

Regards,

Klaas

Tolmerus atricapillus would fit best. As other similar species which may fit also are not yet recorded from the Netherlands (e.g. T. pyragra), it should be atricapillus.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
