The fly was no more than 5mm long (probably a little less). 15 June on a wooden railing surrounding a pond (Helsingborg, Sweden). Member Location: Shachovskaya Posts: 646 Joined: 17.09.08	I know several palaeartctic species which have black tibiae: uliginosa, aquatica, brunipes, major and lyra, tha latter is on the Far East only. uliginoda has black palpi, here we can see yellowish. Eye-to-cheek index is rather high (not aquatica) but not 2:1 as in major. So the only species left is Notiphila brunipes, but usually it has silvery-white face, rarely - a little yellowish, here it seems too yellowish, but possilbe it is some photo-effect.

Member Location: Helsingborg, Sweden Posts: 1241 Joined: 24.10.08	Thanks for help and interesting info. I think the yellowish colour is caused by me lighten a dark photo. That usually creates an increase in yellow.
