 could you ID this huge fly, please!

saw this huge fly today, first time ever, flying around an olive tree, could anybody ID it, please. thank you for your help! the size was around 5-9mm, maybe larger, thick, with a huge wing span the picture was taken at dusk on a wind day, on the 17th of abril. I first heard the fly, turned my head and saw her sucking nectar on a daisy, ended up flying to a olive tree. the place is in Albufeira in Portugal. It is a Pangonius, as stated by Gerard. To tell the species, we would need to see the wings. It is somewhere in the granatensis / ferrugineus group If you collect these specimens, I can help you out. Theo Zeegers |
