Cerodontha denticornis and C. affinis have both variable colouring thorax, only near C. denticornis is absent acrostichlas setulae. This is probably C. denticornis.

Kahis, Milos, thx for the help.

Milos does the variablilty of thorax color include the color of scutellum? I have one image in my gallary labeled as C. d. cf, but it has an entirely grey scutellum. Is that ID correct?

Can I assume that this image and this image also shows C. denticorne cf? Or the darker tibia colors suggest another C. species?

Gabor,
if is specimen without acr setulae it is Cerodontha denticornis (only European species, some African species are too without acr setulae). Colouring (including scutellum) near C. d. is very variable.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
