hello flyforum,

This fly clinged itself to a tree so it was nog blowned away by the wind.
The head is held forward and the snout is partly hidden.

Is this a Hilara sp.?

It's a large group 'Hilara', many species..
What kind of Hilara sp. is this?, must be difficult to see (I gues..)

greeting, Robert Heemskerk

Rhamphomyia, probably R. crassirostris.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
