Hello flyforum, I am trying to find the name for this Bibio sp. (male) Also found in the Amsterdam Woodforest. It's got a dark (black) pterostigma and on the frontal leg it has got two red spines (one big). The metatars 3 is long and in my opinion small.. Long hairs on the thorax, difficult to see what color, I think they are white/yellow. (on the picture there is much contrast because of backlight so it seems to be black I think) Perhabs someone can help me any further with these Bibio? Well, my guess would be B.johannis - those body hairs look black to me. |

Hello Chris, Yes, you are right. On other pictures I can see the black bodyhair and metatarsers 3 better. These fits with B. Johannis! Thank you for answering Robert, |

with such a really black stigma, I have no doubt it is johannis. lanigerus is, in NL, restricted to sandy soils, though very common there. Johannis also occured on peaty soils, clays, ... Theo |
