Hi, i'm confused as to which of the Eristalis species this one is? Can anybody offer a positive ID? An explanation would be welcome. I thought tenax, but i've read somewhere that pertinax doesn't always have a tapered abdomen, and this ones legs seem quite yellow in places, which i thought swayed towards pertinax? Certainly more like pertinax than tenax. Where was it photographed?

in my opinion this is more like E. interrupta: the stigma looks very small Amalia |

I think this specimen may be quite freshly emerged, so that the wing colours have not developed fully - the left wing does seem to show a long, though slightly faint stigma. There is a similar female with faint stigma at http://popgen.uni...tinax.html
