It is a female of Baryphora speciosa. Only found in Greece and Turkey... Wonderful pic!

It's already there, even before you posted it was.

Today in Turkey (Side, sand dune) I also collected 2 Baryphora. Is it Baryphora speciosa too? Nikita Vikhrev attached the following image: [77.06Kb] Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

Martin mentioned there being two species (only one of which described) and this, like the other appears to be a female but it shows clear morphological differences. Either this is speciosa, or the other one. IMO.

On the other hand, Paul, I wrote that I collected 2 Baryphora yesterday, both females, but the second one has all yellow antennae (only dorsaly black) - so species seems rather variable Nikita Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

I asked Kevin Holston who has a lot of experience with this genus, and this is what he wrote about Nikita's picture: "Yes, it's B. speciosa as well - the variability in the antennal cuticle color is pretty high even within the single population " Cheers Martin Martin Hauser |
