Hi, This fly was a bit small for my camera (a new one with macro lens is ordered!); however, its wing and body colouration recalls Rhagoletis cerasi (Tephritidae). Can it be confused with other similar species? Seen on 3 May in Berlin. Regards, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: [156.77Kb] |

Yes, it is Rhagoletis cerasi, and certainly not R. berberidis, which it can be confused with - there are silvery vittae on its mesonotum. In fact, there are 2 differen "host races", perhaps species, associated with Lonicera and Prunus. They have no morphological differences.

Many thanks for all explanations, Valery. As we have a lot of Prunus and Lonicera ornamentals around, the little fly will be happy in any case. Sundew |
