is this a male marci or hortulanus ? Found today on Hawthorn tree in Richmond Park. A few around but quite scattered. this older photo from May 2006, taken in the same area I take to be the female of one or the other above? Edited by Toby on 20-04-2008 18:42 |

The first one is neither. It is a small species. Since the legs seem to be black, the thorax is blackhaired and the abdomen whitish haired. This strongly suggests B. varipes. Can't see metatars 3, so not sure. Theo |
