Hello! Only 7-9 ?C here (northwest Germany) yesterday (now it's -2 ?C) and snowing casually, so the "stiletto bombers" (Bombylius major) utilized every sunbeam for sunbathing - or hung paralysed at twigs... A good occasion to take some photos from the underside. Some more pictures here (text in German): http://insektenfo...adid=14110 Juergen Peters attached the following image: [65.43Kb] Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |

This is a fun pic (although I don't suppose the fly was having fun ). Your main pic on Insektenfotos is fascinating - I've never seen them do that.

I would like to see the proboscis of Moegistorhynchus longirostris... that's what I call a true proboscis. |

Hello, Susan! Susan R Walter wrote: I've never seen them do that. At first I thought, this fly was dead, probably killed by a fungus (in this case flies often hang around in peculiar positions). But then it moved a leg, and I remembered that I had found Bombylius major at night in the garden "sleeping" while hanging at twigs like this one.
