This ''Empis opaca'' seems to have two proboscis: one long (the "normal" one) and one shorter with some kind of ramification at the tip. What is this?

I have this other picture where the two "beaks" appear close to each other. Could it be that there is some part coming out from the proboscis? I'm really puzzled with this. (I realize now yesterday was the 1st of April, but this nothing to do with it!)
