Must admit I'm not sure it is a fly- thought it was a wasp but it appears to have halteres. Taken 05/02/06 South Coast UK. Also has a velvet mite walking on it's leg. 6-8mm long. First time I've "captured" one of these whatever it is. Thanks Brian V.

Must be Scatopse notata, more or less the giant among the Scatopsidae in this part of the world.
