Have a nice Day. One Question please. I found a dead Pollenia species. Can you identify them in more detail or can you not identify Pollenia species from the photo? I would be very grateful for an answer. Finding data: Austria, Lower Austria, Tattendorf, 220m, garden, December 01th, 2025, size 10mm Kind regards Karl karl7 attached the following image: ![]() [114.36Kb] Edited by karl7 on 08-12-2025 16:05 |

Hallo Karl, in general, Pollenia cannot be identified from pictures ("examination of a specimen under a microscope is necessary for correct identification", Olga Sivell (2021): Blowflies). Sometimes it is possible though, but then several characteristics must be clearly visible. This one is a female with a pale basicosta and strongly dusted abdomen like the very common P. rudis. Greetings, Eric |

Hello Eric thank you for the Answer of female Pollenia sp., and thanks for the information that you can't definitely determine Pollenia species from the photo. So I no longer need to ask about safe Polenia sp. -species. Kind regards Karl. |
