I tried to follow a key, but got lost when it asked for color of hind legs ... I suppose it's not possible to say any more than Platycheirus sp from these poor photos. There are so many species in this genus.

Nota bene. I have better photos of the Asilidae.

Peltatus is as close as I can get, based upon the shape of the abdominal spots.

Wholy black antennae don't fit with P. peltatus. I think we're near Platycheirus clypeatus with this one (abdominal pattern better match too).
Stephane.

Spots look trapezium-shaped, characteristic for peltatus. But you are right about the black antennae, I forgot to look at that! Clypeatus, looking at the type of dusting on the frons.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
