The tachinid was observed 22nd May 2024, Trelde Skov, Fredericia, Denmark.
Could it be Tachina lurida? I don't think the species has been observed in Denmark before, but it is seen quite north in Gernamy.
Unfortunately only one image.
cheers

It is a female and it is off, lacking the dust bands.

I think this is marklini. In which case the record is pretty far to the south...

Thank you very much Theo.

If it's not a dragonfly, it might be a fly

So Nowickia has been incorporated into Tachina?
If it's marklini it would be a rare(?) case of a species moving south. The current trend is of course the opposite.

Ah, tibia is yellow, I missed that. And I misjudged the width of vertex, it is actually narrower that it seems at first look. So it is the male of T. lurida, that explains the lot.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
