Hello

I photographed this about 6 mm large fly on daisies in the garden on 01.05.2024. Unfortunately there is no other view. J├╝rgen has already given me the hint to Empis sp. Is it possible to identify the species?
Finding data: Germany, Saarland, Bexbach, garden, 250 m, 01.05.2024

Greetings, Volker

Hi Volker, pretty sure, it's a female Empis (Pachymeria) femorata.
Greetings, Eric Kloeckner

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
