On 6th April 2024 I took pictures of this sphaeroceridae in Den Helder, Netherlands in a open space in a forest. Can someone please identify it? Thanks a lot. Greetings, Mario Renden

Should be female Lotophila atra but can't really see the scutellar bristles clearly nor the frons - do you have more images?

Dear Dave and others,

I have added two more pictures of its frons and two scutellar bristles? Is it now sure that this is lotophila atra?

Greetings,
Mario Renden

Hi Mario,
Yes that's fine, there will be some other short setae around the edge of the scutellum, I can see one on the left but they do sometimes break off

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
