Januari 23rd I found a cocon in a small forest in Leiden that I wasn't able to identify, so I decided to raise it and identify the moth it would become.

But two days ago I discovered two flies in the box the cocon was in, while the only things in the box was the cocon and earth that was in the microwave for 10 minutes to sterilize it. So I was wondering where the flies might have come from, but I discovered a hole in the cocon (the hole measures 1.5 X 3 mm), so the flies must be Tachnidae. Onfortunately I took pictures of the flies and released them withot realizing it must be something special. I also haven't measured the flies, but the pupae are 7/8 mm. Can someone tell me which Tachnidae these are? Leon Olsthoorn attached the following image: [18.54Kb] |
