Hello,
these fly photos were taken in October in Germany in Saxony. Is species ID possible?
1st picture: Drosophila repleta?
2nd picture: Drosophila hydei?
or belong both specimen to the same species?
Greetings,
Marion

..As for the second picture, I fully agree with D. hydei. Concerning the first picture, I would be somewhat cautious - the darkening of costal break indeed points to D. repleta, but it would be nice to see some more characters, e. g. fore coxa and ventrolateral parts of abdominal tergites.

Thank you very much for confirmation of Drosophila hydei, Jan.
Unfortunately, I do not have other pictures of the 1st fly, where more important characters are visible.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
