This male of the Otites formosa group I collected last week in the south of the Netherlands. I do not find it easy to make a decision between O. ruficeps or O. porcus. Can someone help me out?

See the pictures (including genitalia pictures) in the following link: https://waarnemin...273648553/

Good morning,
looks like Otites porcus to me (occiput, femora and tibia widely orange) but im not specialist!
In O. ruficeps occiput, femora and tibia entirely black.
check: Kameneva & Korneyev, 2019

best wishes

Thanks for your help! I also thought it should be porcus.
Best wishes, Niels-Jan Dek

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
