Small, 4-5mm.
Melancholic, was happy to sit still, blow bubbles and show off its red rucksack whilst I photographed.
On Tanacetum vulgare, in mixed grassland, 20m from a wooded stream.
18th August, 2022 @ 17:50 on a hot day in a drought.
Flensburg N.Germany, 54.754211N 9.420943E , +/- 50m asl.

Many Thanks in advance

Anthomyza sp. with a mite. Generally, some mites parasitize Diptera while some others are phoretic. I think that this one is a parasite, but not sure. Apparently it does not belong to phoretic Macrochelidae.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
