Hi,

Center of France 17th of april 2022 near a pool.
When I saw this Eristalis on the screen I noticed that something was sticking out under the tergite 4.
Has anyone heard of stepsipterans parasitizing syrphidae.
Unfortunately I don't have any more precise pictures.

This looks like mechanical damage to me - a bird, perhaps?

OK Tony, probably the reason why it was not very active.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
